Recipient of both the Purple Heart and Silver Star for heroic service to his country, Justin is a former elite college wrestler turned track cyclist via a non-traditional route. During Justin's second deployment to Iraq in 2006, he suffered severe injuries due to multiple concussions from improvised explosive device (IED) blasts, and a drop from a helicopter.
With the introduction of cycling into his rehabilitation, Justin’s condition began to improve. He started on a hand cycle in 2009, which he was told would be as far as he would go. Fueled by a new life-passion, the lifelong athlete set out to prove the medical experts wrong.
In 2010, Justin competed in his first Track Cycling National Championships and went on to be part of four Team USA Para World Championship teams. In 2015, Justin won the bronze medal at the Para-Pan American Games in Canada.
